Borderland


There are the things we understand,


The things we believe in and take on faith,


And the things we accept based on the bounds of our own ignorance and limited comprehension of existence. Everything else we push away,


Trying to pretend that it doesn’t exist,


Running from it as fast and far as we can.

Until the day that it finally catches us....

Warren wasn’t sure exactly when it began.

He had some scattered memories as a child of feeling that he was being watched; a vague sense that there was something peering at him from just beyond what he could see inside the darkened recesses of his closet, or lurking in the depths of the long shadow cast by the family station wagon as it sat parked in the driveway on a sunny day.

All kids have moments like this, and Warren doubted that his were any different, except for the fact that they’d never ended.
